Cheeto Puffs and Ralph Waldo Emerson | Argumentation #2

Transcendental writer Ralph Waldo Emerson formulated his belief that people should, "speak what [they] think today in hard words and tomorrow speak what tomorrow thinks in hard words again, though it contradict everything [they] say today". This idea highlights the transcendental ideal that everyone is good, and in that, everyone’s ideas are good as well. Stating those ideas with confidence also perpetuates finding the good within yourself. These actions could ultimately leads to success, and can be seen in the world we live in today.
Within politics, people have climbed the steps to success by simply speaking their mind and “telling it like it is.” One strong example of that being the current Cheeto Puff of a President, Donald Trump. In doing so, his election platform stood out more compared to his opponents, and his controversial attitude and words gave him much more media popularity, and therefore led him to his current position. With that said, his actions directly prove Emerson’s idea that success comes from saying whatever you want, however you want.
Personally, being spontaneous is what has given me some of the greatest moments of my life thus far. My experience is Key Club is a huge example of that. Things like accepting the position as a club editor as a freshman who had just joined Key Club, running for Lieutenant Governor, or dropping hundreds of dollars to be surrounded by thousands of other members at DCON were all things that I didn’t plan to do, and ultimately decisions made on the spot. Being spontaneous and not being afraid to do things, despite what others might have to say has helped me make strides towards my own personal success. Emerson’s ideal definitely applies to my life as of now, and does produce some form of success.
With all of that in mind, spontaneity and speaking your mind do lead to success. Though some success may not be great to others, these actions do prove success in any form, big or small. This idea is still seen in this world today, and is one of the ways in which many people have found their success.
